Toledo and Gilmore become WSL 2022 world champions

Australian Stephanie Gilmore eclipsed Brazilian Filipe Toledo's victory to claim her eighth world title after beating season-long leader Carissa Moore in the final.

Filipe Toledo has been the undisputed best surfer throughout the season, and in the finals he has made it clear again. He won the first two heats and did not need a third to lift the trophy. 

He beat Italo Ferreira in the final who started the Rip Curl WSL Finals in fourth position. He needed to get past Kanoa Igarashi, Ethan Ewing and Jack Robinson to get to the final. and he did.
