Jack Robinson and Johanne Defay win at G-Land

Jack Robinson y Johanne Defay ganan en G-Land

Jack Robinson (AUS) and Johanne Defay (FRA) take victory at the sixth stop of the 2022 WSL CT, theQuiksilver and ROXY Pro G-Land, respectively. After a week of waiting without waves, the organization decided to go ahead on the least bad day of those that remained, with waves of just over a meter. And in this context, the Australian and the French were the best.

Johanne Defay started the championship very badly, losing in the first round. But from then on there was no one to stop her. From the playoffs to the final, he eliminated surfers like seven-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore; to one of the favorites for the event like Bronte Macaulay; and the current and five-time world champion, Carissa Moore. "Being the first woman to win here at G-Land is special; especially coming from Réunion and the Indian Ocean being my home", explained the Frenchwoman, who already had victories in waves like Uluwatu or Cloudbreak.

Jack Robinson, for his part, had to deal with the powerful surfing of the Brazilians to win. In the semifinals he beat the current champion Gabriel Medina (who returned to compete after the break due to mental health) and in the final he did the same with the circuit leader, Filipe Toledo. "Thanks to the sea for giving me the opportunity to catch a wave in the last seconds, it was an incredible finish," said the Australian, who achieved his second consecutive victory in the CT 2022 after winning before the cut in Margaret River.

Carissa Moore, new leader

After the stop in Indonesia, the yellow lycra changes hands in the women's category. Carissa Moore, current world champion and up to five times winner of the circuit, regains the lead with her second position in G-Land. For his part, Filipe Toledo manages to retain first place in the men's category thanks also to being runner-up in Grajagan Bay. The next stop will be the Surf City El Salvador Pro, with a window that goes from June 12 to 20.
